"Amor und Psyche" ist ein Kunstmärchen, das der spätantike Autor Apuleius in seinen Roman Metamorphosen, besser bekannt unter dem Titel "Der goldene Esel", eingefügt hat. Dessen mythologischer Stoff, die Liebe zwischen Gott Amor und der Königstochter Psyche, hat bis heute Dichtern, Schriftstellern, Malern, Bildhauern, Komponisten und Choreographen Motive geliefert. Wahrscheinlich benutzte Apuleius dafür altorientalische Quellen.

Meine Serie übermalter Collagen nach Motiven aus Raffaels Fresken in der römischen Villa Farnesina mit dem Titel "Amor und Psyche" fügt diesen vielschichtigen Stoff der Liebe zwischen einem Gott und einem Menschen in ein modernes collagistisches und malerisches Geflecht. Im Märchen wird Psyche schließlich vergöttlicht, um mit Amor zusammen zu sein.

Psyche bedeutet auch Seele und lieferte den Begriff für die Psychologie.

“Cupid and Psyche” is an artistic fairy tale that the late-antique author Apuleius included in his novel *Metamorphoses*, better known under the title "The Golden Donkey". Its mythological subject matter—the love between the god Cupid and the king’s daughter Psyche—has continued to inspire poets, writers, painters, sculptors, composers, and choreographers to this day. Apuleius likely drew on ancient Oriental sources for this.

My series of painted collages based on motifs from Raphael’s frescoes in the Roman Villa Farnesina, titled “Cupid and Psyche,” weaves this multifaceted narrative of love between a god and a human into a modern collage and painterly tapestry. In the fairy tale, Psyche is ultimately deified so that she may be with Cupid.

Psyche also means “soul” and provided the term for “psychology.”
